Araghchi Says Iran Open to “Reassuring Agreement”

(MENAFN) Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Saturday that Tehran is willing to conclude a “reassuring agreement” concerning uranium enrichment, while making clear that halting enrichment entirely falls outside the scope of any negotiations.

In remarks to a news agency, Araghchi explained that the Iranian nuclear dossier can only be settled through dialogue, pointing out that Washington eventually returned to the negotiating table after earlier turning to military measures.

“Negotiations are the only way to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue,” Araghchi said, describing the renewed engagement with Washington as “a good starting point,” while cautioning that “a long road remains to rebuild trust” between the two parties.

He also underscored that Iran’s missile capabilities are not open for discussion, either now or in the future, characterizing the program as a “defensive matter.”

According to Araghchi, Iran is ready to “build confidence to conduct realistic negotiations aimed at reaching a fair, win-win outcome,” reaffirming Tehran’s openness to an agreement that reassures all stakeholders with regard to enrichment activities.

Simultaneously, he stressed that zero enrichment is “not on the negotiating table,” emphasizing that enrichment represents a “guaranteed right” for Iran and “must continue.”

“Even bombardment failed to destroy our capabilities,” he said.

Turning to regional security issues, Araghchi noted that Iran does not strike neighboring nations, but rather US military installations stationed in the region.

“We do not attack neighboring states; we target US bases in the region, and there is a big difference,” he said.
